Lutheran World Federation (LWF) World Service
World Service is the humanitarian and development arm of the Lutheran World Federation. We are a widely recognized, international, faith-based organization working in over twenty countries. We seek to bring people of all backgrounds together in the common quest for justice, peace, and reconciliation in an increasingly complex and fragmented world.
A commitment to the human rights of every individual, regardless of their status, guides our work, actions, and operations. We are particularly known for our timely, compassionate, and professional humanitarian work, and for our field presence in hard-to-reach areas. Our work is people-centred and community- based. Above all, we work with the most vulnerable, and in order to claim and uphold their rights, we engage proactively with local government and community structures.
For additional information, please see www.lutheranworld.org/WorldService.
LWF World Service is present in 25 countries with approximately 50 international staff hired with Geneva based contracts. The field international staff is often working under extra stress and as part of the organisation's duty of care responsibility, LWF seeks to provide expert staff counselling to better support health and wellbeing of its staff.
Expected Results and Reporting
The Stress Management Specialist will conduct pre-deployment briefings for all field staff, organized in coordination with the LWF World Service Human Resources team. These sessions will help prepare staff for the psychological and emotional challenges of field assignments and introduce available support mechanisms. Following deployment, the Specialist will remain accessible to provide individualized support upon request, ensuring timely and confidential assistance tailored to staff needs.
In addition to one-on-one sessions, the Specialist can be requested to deliver virtual presentations to country teams or interested staff groups. These sessions will cover topics such as stress management, self-care, coping strategies, and other relevant areas aimed at promoting resilience and well-being across the organization.
The Stress Management Specialist will submit quarterly reports detailing the number of staff and dependents supported, along with key observations and trends identified through these interactions. These reports will include general recommendations for monitoring staff well-being and, as relevant, propose measures to strengthen resilience and duty of care across the organization.
Based on insights gathered from individual and group sessions, the Specialist will advise the LWF World Service Human Resources Manager on emerging staff care issues and risks. Where necessary, the Specialist can recommend specific actions—such as enhanced support interventions or, in exceptional cases, evacuation—to safeguard the health and well-being of staff in challenging contexts.
The overall aim of the consultancy is to reduce health and welfare risks for LWF field staff, strengthen overall staff well-being, and reinforce LWF’s duty of care toward its staff members and their dependents in the field.
