Terms of Reference

Main Purpose of the Role:

Contribute to the early detection of breast cancer by providing safe, accurate, high-quality mammography imaging in accordance with approved clinical, radiation safety, infection prevention, and quality assurance standards. The role supports equitable access to breast cancer screening through the Mobile Mammography Unit and community outreach activities, while ensuring respectful, patient-centered care and efficient coordination of the unit’s workflow.

Key Responsibilities:

·         Ensure mammography and related equipment are checked before use, and promptly report any malfunction, error, or safety concern in accordance with established procedures.

·         Perform mammography procedures to obtain high-quality diagnostic images for breast cancer screening in accordance with approved clinical protocols.

·         Maintain high standards of image quality and participate in required quality assurance and quality control activities.

·         Explain the mammography procedure clearly and respectfully, provide appropriate breast-health education, and reinforce the importance of recommended screening and follow-up.

·         Accurately document patient information, examination details, and relevant observations in the approved medical record systems, maintaining confidentiality at all times.

·         Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient flow, referrals, follow-up, and continuity of care as needed.

·         Clean, disinfect, and support the proper care and routine maintenance of radiology equipment in accordance with infection prevention and manufacturer requirements.

·         Educate women on breast health, breast cancer awareness, early detection, prevention, and available treatment options.

·         Follow up with patients requiring additional investigations and reinforce the importance of completing recommended diagnostic tests.

·         Ensure mammography images are transferred to the radiologist for interpretation.

·         Follow up on mammography reports and support the timely communication and documentation of results in accordance with approved procedures and scope of practice.

·         Perform authorized routine quality control checks and support equipment calibration in accordance with manufacturer instructions, applicable standards, and Biomedical Engineering requirements.

·         Ensure the mobile mammography unit is positioned safely and on level ground before operating the equipment.

·         Immediately report equipment malfunctions to the Biomedical Engineering Department and the Community Program Director.

·         Comply with radiation safety, infection prevention, quality assurance, and patient safety policies.

·         Participate in community outreach and breast cancer awareness activities, including Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October).

·         Contribute to the implementation of annual community awareness activities.

·         Perform other related duties assigned by the Chief Community Outreach Program.

·         Demonstrate flexibility to work across different program locations based on operational needs and the program schedule.

·         Be available to work on a shift basis, including evening shifts and weekends as required by the program.

·         Ability to manage a high patient volume and work effectively under pressure.

·         Ability to perform efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience

·         Bachelor’s degree in Medical Imaging, Radiologic Technology, or a recognized equivalent qualification.

·         Valid professional license/registration to practice as a Radiology Technologist, as required by the applicable regulatory authorities.

·         Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in radiologic technology; practical mammography experience is strongly preferred.

·         Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

·         Ability to build credibility and trust with staff and work effectively with them.

·         Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with patients, families, colleagues, and community members.

·         Team-oriented, service-focused, and able to demonstrate flexibility across locations, schedules, and operational requirements.

Ability to work independently under pressure, manage priorities, and meet deadlines. Demonstrated commitment to professional ethics, patient dignity, confidentiality, human rights, non-discrimination, and respectful professional relationships.
