The Augusta Victoria Hospital (AVH) is a medical center of excellence that has been providing healthcare services and other health programs for about 70 years to Palestinians, including refugees from throughout the West Bank and Gaza. Terms of Reference
Main outcome of the role:
The Oncology Fellow at AVH will participate in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients with various cancer disorders, while engaging in formal educational, research, and clinical activities. The fellow will provide care under the supervision of the attending oncology specialists and multidisciplinary teams. Responsibilities and privileges will align with the fellow’s level of training, competence, and professional development throughout the program.
This position is part of AVH’s structured three-year Oncology Fellowship Program, designed to advance clinical expertise, academic growth, and leadership in cancer care.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
· Provide comprehensive care to cancer patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
· Participate in and contribute to multidisciplinary tumor boards and care conferences.
· Develop a deep understanding of the multidisciplinary nature of oncology care, including surgery, radiation, pathology, and palliative medicine.
· Conduct and publish research under the guidance of hospital staff — clinical, translational, or laboratory-based.
· Perform and become proficient in hematology and oncology procedures, including bone marrow aspiration and biopsy.
· Attend and contribute to educational activities, such as journal clubs, oncology didactics, and multidisciplinary case conferences.
· Supervise and mentor residents and medical students to strengthen teaching and leadership skills.
· Demonstrate excellence in communication and empathy in interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
· Learn and apply principles of pain management and palliative care in oncology.
· Critically evaluate and apply medical literature to evidence-based practice.
· Gain exposure to the fundamentals of radiation oncology and its role in integrated cancer management.
· Enhance consultative and diagnostic skills through inpatient consults and interdepartmental collaboration.
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Education and Certification
· MD degree recognized by the MOHE and PMC
· Full registration with the Palestinian/Jordanian Medical Syndicate
· BLS / ACLS mandatory
· Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent recognized medical degree.
· Completion of a residency program in Internal Medicine.
· Valid license to practice medicine in the State of Israel or eligibility for licensure.
· Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine.
Experience
· Minimum of 2 years of post-residency clinical experience preferred.
· Previous experience in oncology or hematology rotations will be an asset.
· Demonstrated involvement in academic, research, or quality improvement activities is desirable.

· Language Skills: Fluency in English required; knowledge of Arabic and/or Hebrew is an advantage.
· Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Work Environment and Conditions
· The fellowship involves rotation between inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, day-care units, and academic activities.
· Fellows are expected to participate in on-call duties as scheduled.
· Research activities may require extended or flexible hours.
· Ability to build credibility and trust with departments and staff and work effectively with them.
· Teamwork-oriented and demonstrated flexibility.
· Motivated to work in a fast-paced environment.
· Ability to work independently under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and demonstrate flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving.
