Background:
World Service (WS) is LWF’s internationally recognized humanitarian and development arm. LWF Iraq has been operational in the Kurdistan Region since 2014. With offices in Dohuk and Mosul, LWF expanded its activities into the Nineveh plains after liberation from the Islamic State (IS) in 2018. LWF has long experience in community engagement to implement livelihoods, protection, social cohesion, WASH and other humanitarian and development programming with IDPs, returnees and host communities living in and out of camps. LWF is committed to serve all people irrespective of ethnicity, gender, religion, race or political conviction. LWF works to promote meaningful participation from all participants in all aspects of our programming, focusing on the rights and needs of groups living in vulnerable situations including women, children, persons with disabilities and the elderly.
Scope of work:
The Project Assistant effectively supports the implementation of project activities under the “Building Resilient Communities through WASH: Addressing Climate Change and Strengthening Social Cohesion” project, establishes strong links with communities and relevant stakeholders in the project areas and ensures that field teams have smooth access to relevant locations. The project assistant also supports quality and timely monitoring of project activities. The position is based in Mosul but will require frequent trips to the project areas.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Support implementation and cooperation with relevant stakeholders
· Collect community focal point details and coordinate with (stakeholders, Mukthars, community leaders, community members and groups, key farmers, etc.) in the target locations.
· Act as a focal point for the communities and establish close links between LWF field staff and communities and all relevant stakeholders in the project area (government actors and other humanitarian agencies).
· Plan and implement the project activities with guidance from the project officers, establish target groups as well as selected individuals.
· Ensure – through clear weekly and monthly work plans – WASH and Social Cohesion monitoring, field assessments, community-based activities, especially community engagement, awareness raising, community-led initiatives, and advocacy activities, are carried out in a timely, effective and technically sound manner.
· With support of the supervisor, conduct individual interviews and facilitate participatory Social Cohesion and WASH assessments, applying the Age, Gender and Diversity mainstreaming approach, to fully understand the displaced population in its diversity, their Social Cohesion concerns and priorities, and the resources available to them.
· Develop and design required materials, tools, curriculums that contain topics related to social cohesion and WASH trainings.
- Implement community-based activities, especially community engagement, awareness raising, community-led initiatives, and advocacy activities, with special emphasis on discriminated groups and people with specific needs, with the aim of building linkages and taking on leadership roles.
· Carry out standardized surveys by interviewing targeted HH`s and individuals.
· Monitor the situation in the project area and report changes in project environment to the project officers.
· Support field teams in negotiating access to current and potentially new project locations.
· Conduct regular field visits with the project staff.
· Collaborate closely with the LWF monitoring and evaluation team to furnish regular field updates for the purpose of updating relevant data information dashboards.
· Gather information on activities of other humanitarian actors in the project area.
· Report any incidences related to protection of returnees and host-communities to the management.
· Report security incidences in the field in a timely manner to the management and together with the Field officers cooperate with the Security Department in security related matters.
Administrative tasks related to project activities
· Establish and maintain a database for contacts of focal points in the project area.
· In close collaboration with the project officers prepare permission letters for relevant activities.
· Provide written updates on the overall situation in the project areas if changes occur.
· Provide project staff with updated maps and map changes in access to current and potential project locations.
In addition to the above related responsibilities, the project assistant may be asked to carry out other duties as requested by the WASH and Social Cohesion / Peacebuilding officers.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s Degree or relevant qualification;
· Minimum two (2) years of work experience in a relevant field;
· Previous experience in an international NGOs and/or institution is a strong advantage;
· Very good understanding of the context of Iraq specially in Sinjar, Tal-Afar, Baaj, Hamdaniya and Baashiqa.
· Strong ability to analyses complex situations;
· Excellent communication skills and ability to establish a broad network of contacts;
· Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work and deal successfully in multi-cultural environment;
· Fluency in Arabic English is required.
· Able to work with Microsoft Office;
· Ability to travel throughout Ninewa governorate.
· Ability to work calmly under difficult and sometimes stressful conditions;
· Committed, honest and eager to learn.
